What is the difference between a hybrid and a plug-in hybrid?
A standard hybrid charges its battery through regenerative braking and the engine and cannot be plugged in. A plug-in hybrid has a larger battery that can be charged externally, allowing 20 to 50 miles of electric-only driving before switching to the gasoline engine. PHEVs typically qualify for the Charge Up NJ rebate while standard hybrids do not.
