Moving to the U.S.? Diplomat? No SSN yet?

Diplomats & Consular Personnel (NJ tax benefits)

If you’re eligible for diplomatic/consular tax exemption in New Jersey, motor vehicles require a Motor Vehicle Tax-Exemption Letter requested before the transaction is finalized. The seller/lessor typically requests it from the U.S. Department of State Office of Foreign Missions (OFM) with your details (mission, DOB/PID, purchase type, VIN, dealer info). Diplomatic tax exemption cards can’t replace that letter.

No SSN? Still possible.

Many lenders can work with an ITIN (IRS tax ID) or a business EIN, plus identity + income/residency documents. Approval depends on lender rules and terms.

No U.S. driver’s license yet? We can still deliver.

You can still purchase/lease and take delivery — but to operate the vehicle you’ll need valid licensing + insurance. In NJ, visitors may drive up to one year with a foreign license accompanied by an International Driving Permit (IDP).

That's their business, to make money, I get that but the frustration, time and effort just isn't worth it to me.So, with that said, I was told by Brandon an employee of Vantage Auto Group to give them a try.
