Does expired registration affect the buyer of my car?

Expired registration does not transfer with the car. When a buyer takes ownership, they apply for new registration in their name. The expired registration on the old plates is the seller's responsibility to address, though in practice it is rarely an issue since plates stay with the seller in New Jersey. The buyer should not be impacted.
