Should I take an electric vehicle on a road trip in 2026?

In 2026, EV road trips are more practical than they were even two years ago, but they require more planning than a gas vehicle. The Hyundai Ioniq 6, Tesla Model 3 Long Range, and Kia EV6 all offer 280-350 miles of range per charge and can access DC fast chargers for 10-80% recharges in 20-30 minutes. For routes along major highway corridors where fast charger access is consistent, an EV road trip is entirely manageable. For more rural routes or areas where charger coverage is sparse, a plug-in hybrid or full hybrid offers more peace of mind without range anxiety.
