How far can a PHEV drive on electric power only?
Most PHEVs offer between 20 and 50 miles of all-electric range. Older and smaller PHEVs may offer as little as 15 miles. Newer models like the Toyota RAV4 Prime (42 miles), Ford Escape PHEV (37 miles), and Chrysler Pacifica PHEV (32 miles) offer enough range to cover many daily commutes without using gas. The electric range is rated under ideal conditions; cold weather and highway speeds will reduce real-world range somewhat.
