What if I lost my car title in NJ?
You can apply for a duplicate title through the New Jersey MVC. You will need to complete the Application for Duplicate Certificate of Title (Form DO-22), pay the duplicate title fee, and provide proof of identity. Processing typically takes one to two weeks. Do not try to sell a car without the title in hand; it complicates the transaction significantly for most buyers and some will not complete the purchase at all.
