Do I need a title to sell a junk car in NJ?
In New Jersey, a title is required to transfer ownership of any vehicle, including junk cars. If you have lost the title, you can apply for a duplicate through the NJ Motor Vehicle Commission before selling. Some scrap dealers will accept a car without a title in certain circumstances, but you may receive a lower offer and face additional scrutiny.
